I have killed three batteries before, those dry-acid batteries died because vibrations and bad charging. Advance mechanism seems to work fine and the ignition timing seems good. I replaced the advance springs, but they were still little loose, so I shortened them. I have once kickstarted bike without plugs on accidentally, just thinking did it burn something from ignition system. Do you have the original mechanical advance mechanism? Is it functioning properly you mentioned you replaced the advance springs? What about a battery - got one and is it fully charged?Yes I have proper coil, dual output coil. I have been thinking is it electrical problem? I have pamco and one coil, I have measured the coil and it seems fine, but can it still give miss spark on high rpm?ĭoes your coil have the proper resistance for the Pamco system? If you have a 1971 to 1979 model, then you will also need a dual output coil with a 2.5 to 4.5 Ohm primary resistance. This can be important: I remember when I ran one VHSB 37 carb before, I had same problems on high rpms. 79 yamaha xs650 carburetor diagram full#doesn't feel weak when giving full throttle from low- to mid-rpms, but same problem.Īnyway but something else can cause this. and I meant I tried them, they're in there at now. Yea I have never heard anyone running 120 mains. Just my experience on the BS34 running rich.thanks I'll check those choke plungers. So guess the return springs are a little weak and I need to tear them open again but I am finally been running pretty nicely again. It was still running rich on the left carb right after the swap and noticed that when releasing the choke cable the plunger could still be pushed in just a bit more. The viton bottoms looked pretty good so I had ruled them out early but eventually changed the choke plungers and cleaned up most of it. Finally seem to have gotten to the bottom of it by replacing the choke plungers. I chased it quite a while changing jetting, fuel mixture screws, float levels, air filters, checking electrical, anything I could try. My XS650 with BS34s was running well and then one day died on with fouled plugs. Those guys have compiled and lot of good info. Totally support looking through the carb guide. Given the final item that improved things was the choke plungers I doubt this was necessary but I feel like my bike is running well with them. They fit (XS400 also used BS34 carbs) but are shorter so the clip had to be installed to the leanest position to get close to the stock needle length. Read that the slightly Larger diameter of 5z1 is leaner than the stock US stock 5HX12 needle. I also ended up ordering and installing the needles that were stock in the XS400 (5z1 needles I got used on ebay). While working the issue I replaced them as well but it was not the cause of my issues. In my reading working my issues I also read at least one post that the rubber caps that are below the pilot jet being noted as the cause of running rich when they were old/brittle/rotted out (and a few post of missing rubber caps on BS34s causing issues). I have never read anyone needing to attempt running 120 mains but you could try if you want. My notes are I am running #135 main/45 pilot jet. Like most I default to calling it the choke but its really an enricher circuit so the bad base on the plunger lets additional fuel into the mixture. happy weekend everyone.įorgot to mention I was mostly running fine if I had clean plugs but did have blogging on spots in the throttle so it could still relate to your issue of revs at the end. Greetings from Finland, I hope my text is read-able, I'm lil drunk, it's friday. I mean full black with 135 jets, didn't check today with 120.Ĭould this all be because bad pilot plugs and the exhaust-> I built almost 2x longer exhaust what I had last year, but straight pipe, about 40mm inside diameter. Should I just order smaller main jets? smaller than 120? sounds stupid for me. Nope not running better, couldn't even feel did it run better, power seems fine on low and midrange. The main problem, it won't rev to end, even if riding. > I'm guessing old and bad pilot plugs? (ordered new ones)Ģ. I got the idle working better than last year, because I realized the ignition weight springs were loose.ġ. I put back the original bs34 carbs, because it worked year before. Needle on second richest.įor a while I played with this homemade two in one intake, then throw it away. Last season it ran well, with 135 mainjet, pilot -I dont remember. I have almost finished my build, xs650 with BS34 carbs.
